- • Why does my amplifier keep overheating or clipping when running this subwoofer?
This enclosure is pre-wired internally to a 2-ohm total load. Your amplifier is likely not stable at 2 ohms, or you haven't set the gain properly, forcing the amp to work past its thermal limits.
- • Why does the bass suddenly cut out or sound extremely weak when I turn up the volume?
This usually happens if you are underpowering the sub with a weak amplifier or if the amplifier’s protection mode triggers because it cannot safely deliver 400 watts RMS into a 2-ohm load.
- • Can I rewire the terminal cup on the outside of the box to change it from 2 ohms to 4 or 8 ohms?
No. The driver inside is a dual 4-ohm voice coil sub pre-wired in parallel. You can only change the impedance by physically removing the woofer from the box and rewiring it to an 8-ohm series configuration.
- • Why does the sub fail to play the deepest, ultra-low frequencies well in my truck cabin?
This is a limitation of shallow-mount, sealed wedge boxes. While they offer incredibly tight, punchy bass for rock and electronic music, they naturally roll off on sub-bass frequencies below 30Hz.
- • I hear a prominent rattling or air-hissing noise coming directly from the front panel. Is the sub blown?
Not necessarily. The high-excursion TW3 cone can strike the integrated metal mesh grille if the physical grill becomes loose or slightly bent inward during installation. Inspect the clearance first.
- • What happens if I connect an amplifier that pushes 600W-800W RMS to this PowerWedge system?
Doing so risks burning out the voice coils or ripping the suspension. The TW3 thin-line driver is strictly rated for 400 watts continuous RMS; pairing it with excessive power will cause mechanical failure.
- • Why does the bass sound completely out of phase and hollow after hooking it up to my factory stereo?
This is a common wiring issue during tap-ins. If the positive and negative speaker source wires going into your Line Output Converter (LOC) or amp are reversed, the sub will play out of phase with your factory door speakers.
